Veritas Consulting

Ethiopian Investment Commission Aftercare Program

Veritas was the lead consultant for a four-year International Growth Center (IGC)/DFID that supported the project.  The broad mission of the engagement was to (i) support the development of a new division within EIC focused on providing aftercare services to large investors seeking to enter Ethiopia or expand their existent activities; (ii) to measure the impact of the supports; and (iii) to develop a mechanism wherein qualitative data from these engagements and supports are aggregated and analyzed to support policy changes to improve the ease of doing business. Veritas Managing Partner served as the team leader and Senior Advisor to the Commissioner for the four year period. In addition, Veritas embedded three team members within the newly formed aftercare care department which facilitated knowledge transfer to EIC’s staff. The Veritas team assisted the Commission’s staff in developing outreach protocols, reporting formats, and follow-up criteria to assess challenges companies were having to operationalize their projects.

Veritas’ engagement subsequently evolved to addressing and cataloging systemic problems and directing an analytical frame where solutions are identified. In the final six months of its engagement, Veritas supported EIC to build its institutional capacity to take over the role by finding appropriately recruited staff. Concurrently, Veritas supported in identifying systemic bottlenecks and replicating the aftercare services for export companies which was a new mandate for the EIC.
